The Michelin Guide's review
The 15C monastery is astounding, looking like a small fortress with a remarkable Renaissance façade. From the 16C to 18C this was one of the island's most prosperous religious centres; the 300 monks who lived here, clustered around the church (1587), enjoyed a comfortable income. To the left of the church is a museum that looks back to the 1866 massacre perpetrated by the Turks, and to the right another room presents interesting paintings on wood and a collection of liturgical objects.
