The Michelin Guide's review
In Gallo-Roman times, this street, now mainly pedestrianised and a major retail area, was the main east-west route through the town and designed to withstand flooding. Note the façade of the 15C stone house with a half-timbered gable at n°261, then pass in front of the Prefecture (in a former Benedictine monastery), and opposite, the Salle des Thèses on Rue Pothier, a 15C library and the only remains of the university, where Jean Calvin studied law in 1528.
