The Michelin Guide's review
This magnificent avenue, emblematic of Nice, skirts the Bay of Angels. The length of the promenade is dotted with iconic blue chairs, enabling tired walkers to rest and gaze out at the sea. Up until 1820, the coast was quite inaccessible, but in the 18C, the English colony embarked on the building of a promenade which became the focal point of high-society life in the 19C. The villa Masséna (N°35) and Hotel Negresco (1913 - N°37) both date from this period.
