Founded in 1754 by the British, King's College was renamed Columbia College after the American Revolution. This private university, one of the most prestigious in the country, is renowned for its scientific, law and business faculties. Since 1902, the university has also been home to the school of journalism which awards the Pulitzer Prize. To the north, the Low Memorial Library (1895) recalls the style of the Pantheon in Rome.
