The Michelin Guide's review
An enclave for New York City's "old money", the Upper East Side developed in the late 19C, as prosperous industrialists began building their mansions on the large lots along Fifth Avenue down to Central Park. The ladies who lunch were hot on their heels, moving into luxury apartment buildings along Park Avenue and town houses on the side streets. Today cultural institutions occupy some of the mansions, but the area remains the domain of New York's ultra-wealthy.
