To see craters and landscapes of hardened lava, no need to travel to the ends of the earth: some 80 volcanoes await you, just west of Clermont-Ferrand, between the Gorges de la Sioule and the Grande Limagne. Over some 40km, you can observe the incomparable chain of cinder cones that is the Chaîne des Puys, the Puy de Dôme being a majestic example, and the first natural site in France designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
