The Michelin Guide's review
The Almoravid sultan, Ali ben Youssef, gave Marrakech its famous surrounding walls in 1132. Enlarged under the Almohads, then the Saadians, these 19 km-long fortifications encircling the city are flanked by 202 square towers and numerous gates. Built out of adobe, its warm colours range from pink to red depending on the light.
