The Michelin Guide's review
Looking out over the Kos plain, this sizeable sanctuary dedicated to Asklepios (Asclepius, god of healing, and son of Apollo) occupies a superb site covering four huge terraces linked by monumental stairs. The Asklepeion was built in the late 4C BC then extended several times. The influence of its medial teaching and therapeutic centre reverberated throughout the ancient world, and many prominent Greeks and Romans came for consultations.
