The Michelin Guide's review
Laid out on terraces dominating the valley of the Ribeira de João Gomes, the Jardim Botânico contains remarkable specimens of Madeira's flora and indeed from all over the world. From terrace to terrace, you will get to admire cacti and succulents, topiaries, French-style parterres, a lawn planted with Japanese cycads and a garden of aromatic and medicinal plants. There is also a small natural history museum, which presents botanical, geological and zoological collections.
