The Michelin Guide's review
The Accademia is remarkable for its collection of sculptures by Michelangelo: four slaves originally intended to embellish the tomb of Pope Julius II in Rome; a Pietà known as La Palestrina (one of his earliest works); and, in an apse built especially for the sculpture, the artist's magnificent David, created between 1501 and 1504, when Michelangelo was just 25 years old. The galleries on the first floor display an interesting exhibition of Florentine art from the end of the Gothic period, between 1370 and 1430.
