The Michelin Guide's review
In a breathtaking setting, the long form of Peyrepertuse castle is almost camouflaged as it crouches atop a rocky range at close to 800m/2,650ft. Said to be unassailable, the fort is one of the finest examples of fortifications in the Corbières, the largest of the "Five Sons of Carcassonne". Curiously, it was never besieged, even at the height of Catharism, and history seems to have saved this vertiginous citadel, which looks just as impressive today.
