The Michelin Guide's review
Building of the imposing Church of Our Lady began in 1726 and it is considered the most representative building of Protestant architecture. Its dome, something of a town icon, was destroyed by the bombings of February 1945, as was most of the rest of the church. Until the Reunification, the ruins of the church symbolised the destruction of the city by the Allies. Reconstruction only began in 1994 and the church was consecrated again on 30 October 2005. The crypt houses a stone altar by British sculptor Anish Kapoor and the sepulchre by architect Georg Bähr.
