The Michelin Guide's review
Built on the site of a castle chapel, it was successively bombarded in 1815, 1870, 1914, 1940 and 1944. In tribute to this troubled past, it was raised to the rank of basilica in 1946 and rebuilt after 1950. Don't miss the fabulous Cubist-inspired stained-glass windows (1,000m²), created between 1954 and 1979 by master glassworker, André Seurre, according to drawings by René Dürrbach. It was named Our Lady of Hope, after a greatly worshipped Black Madonna, in the 19C.
