Dunboy Castle
Michelin Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
The Dunboy Estate, indicated by a tower from the R 572, is home to the ruins of two separate castles. Burnt down during the War of Independence, Puxley Mansion (19C) belonged to a Welsh family, which inspired Daphne Du Maurier's novel Hungry Hill. Dunboy Castle, a little further on, was a fortress of the Irish O'Sullivan clan. This star-shaped fort, of which only a few vestiges remain, was the last stronghold to fall to the English in 1602.
