The Michelin Guide's review
This road was created in 1947 to open the gorges up to motorists. It follows the D71 that hugs the right bank of the Verdon and its bends, dominated by sheer walls. The landscape is rich in natural beauty spots, like the amazing Balcons de la Mescla, the Cirque de Vaumale and Lake Ste Croix. It is also well worth stopping in little villages like that of Moustiers-Ste-Marie to get a feel for the pace of life in this region. A road that truly lives up to its name!
