The Michelin Guide's review
Built between the 1C and 2C to accommodate some 10 000 spectators, the Roman amphitheatre hosted both gladiator fights and theatre. It then served as a quarry, from which stone was extracted; the cavea, with part of the curved seating, the underground passages and the podium for high-ranking spectators can still be seen.
