The Michelin Guide's review
Jewel of the Acropolis and masterpiece of Ionic art (406 BC), the Erechtheion served various cults before becoming a church, a palace, a harem and then a military magazine. In contrast to the Parthenon's warlike colonnade, the famous Porch of the Kores (also known as the Gallery of the Caryatids) is supported by six light, graceful statues of young women. Also visible are the ruins of a Mycenaean house, the remains of a sanctuary and a circular temple. A promontory offers fine views of the rooftops of the Plaka district.
