The Michelin Guide's review
Turks in general, and the inhabitants of Ankara in particular, are devoted to the memory of Atatürk. As a testament to this fervour, Atatürk's mausoleum is a grandiose "sanctuary" in the form of a temple, which was completed in 1953. Preceded by a huge esplanade, the mausoleum is reached via 33 steps and a triumphal avenue lined with lions. The museum lists the great deeds of the founder of the Turkish Republic and commemorates the leader through various personal, intimate and official objects such as costumes, a toilet set and cars.
